Course Description:

Current research indicates that about half of older New Zealanders experience some level of loneliness, and 8-9% feel lonely all or most of the time. 

In this course, learners will explore the difference between loneliness, solitude and social isolation. The course describes the potential impacts on physical and psychological wellbeing and outlines approaches that learners can apply to respond to individual needs.

Learning Outcomes:

After completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • Define loneliness and its causes and potential triggers for the person living in the care home
  • Recognise the physiological & psychological impacts of loneliness
  • Implement appropriate strategies to support individuals affected by loneliness in the care home

    This course is appropriate for all staff who work in the social care industry.
