Course Description:

Research conducted by the New Zealand Longitudinal Study of Ageing (NZLSA) shows that around 1 in 10 older people reported some form of abuse (most closely linked to vulnerability and coercion). It showed that abuse or harm can come from family members, friends, professionals, and care staff.

Participating in this course will help you to develop a greater understanding of common types of abuse and to understand the important role the carer has in recognising and reporting the signs of abuse.

After completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the different types of elder abuse
  • How to recognise the signs of elder abuse
  • Understand staff roles and responsibilities if abuse is suspected

This course is appropriate for all staff who work in social care.
