Course Description:
A chronic respiratory condition can have a significant impact on an older person’s quality of life. This course will explore a range of chronic respiratory conditions (including asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), identify their signs and symptoms and discuss practical strategies that staff can implement to support older people in their care.
Learning Outcomes:
After completing this course, participants should be able to:
- Describe key signs and symptoms of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), asthma, occupational lung diseases, and pneumonia
- Identify potential impacts that respiratory conditions may have on a person’s daily life, including the psychological and emotional effects
- Apply practical strategies to improve quality of life for an older person with a respiratory condition
